Ask us about dog adoption, and we’ll point to the nearest shelter full of mutts looking for their forever home. But some folks desire a specific kind of pup, to whom we offer the below organizations. Not what you’re looking for? It’s probably out there. Do your research, and your part to—say it with us—adopt, not shop.

This adorable 2-year-old named Ozzie would be perfect for an active family with another dog.

Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston

Each year the organization rescues roughly 300 of these pint-sized pooches known for their bushy beards, imperious eyebrows, and yappy bark.

This beautiful, fun girl named Hazel, who was rescued from the shelter, loves getting her belly rubbed, car rides, lounging around, and cuddling. She won’t chew her humans’ belongings or jump on their furniture without an invite!

Brave Bully Rescue

Demonized as the “most dangerous breed,” lovable and loyal pit bulls are often turned away by animal shelters. This group adopts them from doggie death row in locations throughout the Houston area.

This sweet and silly 6-year-old named Sam was recently adopted out. His new family has an RV, and he gets to travel everywhere with them.

Golden Retriever Rescue of Houston

These high-energy good boys consistently rank as one of the most popular breeds thanks to their family-friendly nature and down-for-anything enthusiasm. Peruse the GRRH Facebook page for dozens of hilarious first-person dog bios, and find your very own golden.

This handsome boy named Nemo is smart and active. He loves going on walks, playing fetch, cuddling, and toys, and he'll chase a tennis ball for as long as you want to throw it.
