The new locations of Union Kitchen and Jax Grill will be at Stableside at Falcon Landing, a commercial and entertainment development in Katy. 

Add the Union Kitchen and Jax Grill to the list of concepts going west to Katy.

Paul Miller's Gr8 Plate Hospitality, which owns five Union Kitchens and two Jax Grills in the Houston area, announced Wednesday that both concepts will arrive in Katy in early 2019.

Miller, according to a release, has signed a lease to open both concepts at Stableside at Falcon Landing, a 34.4-acre commercial and entertainment development by NewQuest Properties. Groundbreaking is scheduled for later this summer. Mark Boucher of Boucher Design Group (La Centerra Phase I & II in Katy, University Commons in Sugar Land) will design the restaurants.

In the release, Miller, a Katy resident, said his home base is the right next step for his restaurants.

“The Katy area has been growing for a long time, and we really feel like with the demographics and the families that we have out here, it will be a good fit for our concepts,” Miller said. “We’re very connected and committed to the communities and neighborhoods that we serve, and we look forward to continuing that in Katy.”

The Union Kitchen, which will command a 5,000-square-foot space with seating for 450, is a neighborhood eatery that combines global cuisine with tried-and-true American favorites. Miller says it's influenced by his college years, playing football at Purdue University and meeting friends at the student union. The concept launched in 2010 and has five current locations: Bellaire, Memorial, Kingwood, Garden Oaks/Oak Forest, and Washington Avenue, which opened in 2017.

Gr8 Plate acquired Jax Grill in 2015, which has two existing locations—Rice Military and Bellaire—and specializes in Cajun and classic Texan fare. The Katy location will be set in a 4,000-square-foot space with seating for 350. Per the release, both the Union Kitchen and Jax Grill will have outdoor patios and will share a green space.
