July 6 | Hotel Derek
Cool off at Drake's favorite hotel this Friday with a special poolside screening of Sharknado, the can't-believe-it's-real 2013 sci-fi drama in which Tara Reid furrows her brow for 86 minutes as murderous sharks rain from the skies of Los Angeles. To paraphrase Drizzy, "[We] know you like to drink 'til the sun up / Grind 'til you come up," so consider the sharks a perfect prelude to an absurd, wild Friday night out.
Tickets $20 (call for reservations). Hotel Derek, 2525 West Loop S. 713-297-4327. More info at destinationhotels.com.
Thru July 29 | Main Street Theater
Yeah, it's children's theater, but that doesn't stop this book-turned-musical from dialing it up to 11 with the whimsy and energy. Plot-wise, it follows Pinkalicious, a pink-loving girl, in a battle of self-control against a trove of enticing pink cupcakes. Hilarity (and lessons on healthy eating) ensues.
Tickets from $22. MATCH, 3400 Main St. 713-524-6706. More info and tickets at mainstreettheater.com.
July 7 | Downtown Houston
The yearly parade of debauchery returns to downtown for an event the brewer promises to be "bigger, better, and beerer than ever." After check-in at Market Square Park, you'll receive a punch card itinerary dictating your specific route through a handful of the more than a dozen participating watering holes. Then, after you drink your way down the block and back, return to the park for prizes and special performances.

July 7 | White Oak Music Hall
"There's an alternate dimension where Zahira Gutierrez is a pop sensation," writes Cory Garcia in his initial Houstonia impressions of the first Wild Moccasins album in four years. You can, of course, decide for yourself—they're throwing an album release party alongside fellow Houston indie outfits Camera Cult and El Lago.
