OAG, the macdaddy of worldwide travel data, has just announced its Punctuality League 2019 (letterman sweaters on the way), an annual look into the most punctual airlines in the world. Despite your small, snot-ridden child currently writhing on the airport carpet for the second straight hour while you weep into a Starbucks cup and tune out the Fox News blaring over Gate 11, it turns out the U.S. is actually doing quite well when it comes to on-time travel worldwide. Smile, why don't you!?
In 2018, U.S. carriers accounted for five of the top 10 most punctual mega-airline spots and three of the top five mega-airports worldwide. That is mega good news.
Here are the highlights:
Hawaiian Airlines and Delta Air Lines were the most punctual airlines in North America in 2018, also ranking 4th and 16th among all airlines worldwide.
Delta, United, Southwest and American ranked among the top 10 mega-airlines globally, and JetBlue made the top 20.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the busiest airport in the world, but still achieved second place for punctuality among all the world’s mega-airports. Denver ranked fourth and Los Angeles ranked fifth among global mega-airports. In fact, seven out of the top 20 mega-airports and 11 of the top 20 major airports are U.S. hubs.
