Some of the best chefs in the city are uniting for Houston's No Kid Hungry Dinner, set for Nov. 13 at Truth BBQ. Leonard Botello IV, pitmaster and owner of Truth BBQ, will host the multi-course dinner and will be joined by Bobby Matos (State of Grace, La Lucha), Erin Smith and Patrick Feges (Feges BBQ), Nick Wong (UB Preserv), and Rebecca Masson (Fluff Bake Bar). Vanessa Dworakowski of La Lucha will mix cocktails. The dinner benefits No Kid Hungry, which works to end childhood hunger across the country. For more and tickets, visit the No Kid Hungry website.
Have you been to the new H-E-B at Buffalo Heights yet? Located at Heights Boulevard and Washington Avenue, it's home to the fourth iteration of the Roastery, which serves up coffee (roasted at its flagship at the San Felipe H-E-B) and items like sandwiches and salads.
Meanwhile, Houston's flagship (Midtown) Whole Foods Market is set to open at 8 a.m. Nov. 7 at 515 Elgin St. Offerings will include a juice bar, specialty foods section, butcher department, and an Austin-based robotic coffee server from Briggo. (It's an app-based service that basically looks like a coffee ATM; order via the app and pick up when you're ready.)
The recent additions of MAD, Ouzo Bay, and Loch Bar have brought new attention to River Oaks District. So, Sunday's Taste of the District, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 4444 Westheimer Road, is as good a time as any to check out all there is to offer in the retail and entertainment center. Along with food from Loch Bar, plus Bisou, Cavo Coffee, and Kicpops, Taste of the District promises a market with makers and artists, eco-conscious workshops, an Equinox class, and more. Proceeds benefit Recipe For Success, which raises awareness of and helps combat childhood obesity.
La Vie de St Concepts (Tout Suite, SWEET at CityCentre) will take over operation of the restaurant at Southern Downtown Park on the 1500 block of Fannin Street, per a release last week. Plans for the 2,400-square-foot space with indoor and outdoor seating include a cafe (that at the moment is being called a Tout Suite) serving all-day simple food, sweets, and coffee. Craft beer and wine will also be available.
Burns Original BBQ is launching a catering division, so folks can get large party-size orders of brisket, ribs, chicken sausage and sides. New sides developed for the catering operation include a 10-pound loaded baked potato, which will also be served at the restaurant.
Per a Culture Map report, Plano-based wine and pizza spot Sixty Vines will open its first Houston location (in Rice Village) today. We wrote about Sixty Vines's arrival when it was first announced.
And Eater reports Upward Projects, the restaurant group behind Postino, has filed an LLC for a likely Town & Country location of the wine bar.
