Will we get confused by the arrival of another red/orange "W" fast food logo?

A cool $205,592 was raised to benefit the Houston Food Bank, Kids Meals, and the Center for Public Policy Priorities at Houston's Taste of the Nation for No Kid Hungry event on May 22 at Silver Street Studios.

Some of the top restaurants, beverage purveyors, chefs, and bartenders in the city showed up and dished out exceptional bites (shout out to Tejas Chocolate and Barbecue's brisket nacho and the soon-to-open Rosie Cannonball's smoked tomato lentils with chistorra sausage), while a silent auction was held with prizes including two tickets to the Houston Ballet, cooking class at Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen, and dinner for two at BCN Taste and Tradition.

Amber and Julio Garcia of Ambriza Social Mexican Kitchen will open a second location of their restaurant at the Boardwalk in Cypress. At 9945 Barker Cypress Road, the second Ambriza will be designed by the Arizona-based CMDA, which is known for its work with Fox Restaurant Group concepts North Italia and True Food Kitchen, among others. No word yet on an opening date.

To mark Mental Health Awareness Month and the one-year anniversary of the death of Anthony Bourdain, The Dunlavy on June 5 is hosting a dinner in tribute of the late food writer, personality, and chef. The evening begins with a cocktail hour with bites like chicken satay with fake-ass peanut sauce and Texas crawfish rolls (plus Bourdain's favorite drink, a Negroni), and the dinner menu includes items like roasted quail with polenta, a drunk's osso bucco, and something sugary (and something cheesy) for dessert, with drink pairings for all courses. Bread and the sweet dessert will come from Desirae Vasquez of Bread Man Baking Company. Many dishes were influenced by Bourdain's Appetites: A Cookbook. A seat is $100.

Verandah Progressive Indian Restaurant, which opened back in February, is now unveiling a happy-hour program. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, the restaurant is offering reduced-price beer, wine, cocktails, and house-blended teas created by co-owner Anupama Srivastava. A food menu of light Indian bites will also be available.

The first Houston-area Wienerschnitzel is here. The California-based hot dog chain has arrived in the area, opening at 20130 I-59/69 in New Caney. A second area location is already set, too, and that'll be in Baytown (by the end of 2019). These locations are owned by Buns and Dogs, LLC, one of two operators eyeing to bring Wienerschnitzels into Houston; this is to say the Wienerschnitzel invasion of H-Town has only just begun.

(Editor's note: Actually, it's not the first Houston-area Wienerschnitzel, historically. The brand, originally known as Der Wienerschnitzel, had several Houston locations in the 1970s and '80s, per a Wienerschnitzel representative. The last area location closed in the early 1990s. So, welcome back, Wienerschnitzel.)

A fourth Houston-area location of Main Squeeze Juice Co. is now open in The Woodlands. The concept—originating in New Orleans and specializing in hand-pressed juices, superfood smoothies, juice-cleanse programs, wellness shots, and acai bowls—is now operating at 1900 Lake Woodlands Drive.
