MALK Talk: Being a Mom & CEO

What: Local girl bosses August Vega (founder/CEO of MALK Organics, cold-pressed nut milks) and Maryam Naderi (founder of all-natural, clean-beauty paradise Paloma) team up to get real in the first of Vega's monthly speaking series supporting female-run businesses. The inaugural session will focus on motherhood and entrepreneurship, meant to be a meetup where women can discuss the challenges of launching their own businesses and tips for success. Guests will get a MALK tote, MALK coupons, a non-toxic nail polish, and discount for a nail service at Paloma. Register online.

Lauren K. Trunk Show

What: The Highland Village fine jewelry showroom hosts a trunk show of NYC designer Lauren K.'s spring and summer 2019 collection. One-of-a-kind designs are both feminine and edgy, from trendy statement pieces to others with hand-picked gemstones crafted in 18-karat gold and finished with delicate micro pavé (read: last-minute, splurge-worthy Mother's Day gifts).

Mother's Day Trunk Show

When: Friday, May 10–Saturday, May 11; 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
Where: Zadok Jewelers, 1749 Post Oak
What: Another chance to ensure Mom is sufficiently iced out this year: Zadok hosts its own luxury trunk show featuring dazzling designs from Stephen Webster (who's exclusive to Zadok in Houston), Marco Bicego, Roberto Coin, and Pomellato.

2nd Annual Ride for Mental Health

When: Saturday, May 11; 9 a.m. registration, 10 a.m. ride
Where: Begins at Gallery Furniture, 6006 North Freeway
What: If Mom is less diamonds and more leather (or, hey, maybe she's both), she can take her hog on the open road for a good cause: This annual motorcycle ride (from North Freeway to the Richmond Gallery Furniture on Grand Parkway South) benefits the Peace of Mind Foundation, a nonprofit founded by Elizabeth McIngvale (Mattress Mack's daughter) to help improve quality of life for OCD sufferers and raise awareness of mental health. The Mental Health Awareness Rally, featuring lunch, live music, and vendor booths, will follow the ride. Register online ($25 for riders, $15 for passengers, and $15 for "virtual riders"). 

Heights Mercantile Mother's Day Market

When: Saturday, May 11; 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
Where: Heights Mercantile
What: The coolest shopping destination in the Heights is giving you one last chance to find the perfect gift before Sunday, courtesy of a slew of local artisans who will set up shop along the promenade and sidewalks.
