The Artesian Lakes community, located only an hour north of downtown Houston, offers a perfectly secluded escape from busy city life whether you are looking for a vacation home or a place to retire.

This gated community on the edge of the Big Thicket Natural Preserve, features only 102 lakefront lots on 400 acres.  Each homesite is surrounded by towering pines and multi-hued hardwood trees and overlooks pristine, Artesian-fed lakes.

Nature is the community’s number one amenity.  To preserve it, gravel roads meander through heavy wooded areas where wildlife abounds and transect lush meadows designated as common areas.

Property owners’ favorite pursuits are fishing in the professionally stocked lakes, boating through beautiful sunsets, hiking on miles of ancient cypress trails, and spending time with each other in weekly breakfasts, monthly happy hours, and special events organized by a very active social committee.

While the only man-made structures are a large boathouse used for many of those social gatherings, and several concrete boat ramps, property owners have full access to all the amenities at the adjacent resort and conference center, The Retreat at Artesian Lakes, including swimming pool, hot tub, party deck, swim lake with giant slides, fitness center, playgrounds, a Hospitality House, and Hilltop Restaurant and Herb Garden.

Strict architectural guidelines help preserve the natural setting with logs, timber frame, and stone being the predominant construction materials. Homes are positioned to preserve uninterrupted views of lakes while shielded from each other by the lush vegetation.  Only electric motor boats are allowed to preserve the peaceful environment.

Despite the secluded location and emphasis on nature, Artesian Lakes boasts all the conveniences, including central water and sewer systems, underground utilities, and 250 MB fiber optic cabling.

A very important distinction regarding the community’s location is that, despite its Cleveland zip code, which is dictated by the US Postal System, Artesian Lakes is actually located 18 miles northeast of Cleveland, across from the tiny town of Romayor.

Artesian Lakes was developed by the Smith Family, owners of The Retreat at Artesian Lakes (formerly Chain-O-Lakes) which is celebrating 50 years as a family-owned and operated resort and conference center.  Sales tours are conducted by the developer himself with scheduled appointments.

Only 24 lakefront lots, which feature seller financing, are available.  And there are several beautiful log homes currently listed for resale.
