The temptation to eat all of the foods is very real in Houston, but thankfully, the Bayou City has no shortage of delicious healthy food. No one understands the importance of balance and a smart diet like someone who works in the fitness field, so we asked a few professionals for their favorite meals around town. Two things our trainers agreed on: eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring, and almost all portion sizes can be divided into two, so plan ahead when ordering.

"I love the brown rice bowl at Bebidas. I ask for dressing on the side so I can control how much I take in and usually add a side of chicken for lean protein."

— Cat G. Moran, SoulCycle

"I’m a foodie at heart, so when it comes to eating clean, skimping robust flavors isn’t an option! One of my favorite places is Barnaby’s. I order the La Jolla Chicken without cheese and black beans, and sub rice for either broccoli or steamed spinach to satisfy a serving of veggies. The chicken itself has the best-smoked flavor and is topped with chipotle pesto, a grilled green pepper, and pico."

— Roz Jones, SPENGA Montrose

"Head to Superica in the Heights for the house salad with chicken. Skip the cheese and get the dressing on the side. Nourish Juice Bar is another great spot for avocado toast with egg whites, the chicken wrap, or the RIP Monkey Smoothie."

— Anabel Baron, SWEAT 1000

"Flower Child in Uptown Park has awesome options like its build-your-own plates. You can choose up to three options from a list of seasonal veggies and proteins. Vegetables will keep you feeling full while giving you the nutrients you need. Zoe's Kitchen is another favorite. I like to add shrimp kabobs to any of its salads. The Live Med Salad is my favorite, with zucchini squash ribbons and faro."

— Charlotte Morales, Orangetheory Fitness Houston

"I love the Vegan Taco Salad at Local Foods; it’s topped with avocado, which is high in fiber and good for heart health."

— Taryn Burt, RIDE Indoor Cycling

"I love to refuel at True Food Kitchen. I order the Mediterranean Quinoa Salad and add chicken for protein to help my muscles recover, plus it helps keep me fuller longer. For an extra glow, I add the Kale Aid refresher that includes kale, ginger, apple, celery, cucumber and lemon."

— Lisi Garcia, RYDE
