I asked one of the catering cooks at Strato 550, the new 43rd story lunch and happy hour option at 1415 Louisiana (the former Wedge International Tower), what his team will be planning for guests who might want to book a meeting, function, or party at this tony space with a commanding view of the city.
He went through a few options, then naturally said: "The sky's the limit."
He must've had that response ready, because the view is all you'll want to talk about while at Strato 550. The skyline shimmers close by, you can see the roof of the Toyota Center and far out into the suburbs. Also, for those grabbing a post-work drink before driving home, Strato 550 provides the perfect glance at rush-hour traffic conditions.
The restaurant, which hosted a grand opening Thursday and will be ready for service starting Monday, will roll out a menu inspired by the varied tastes along the Mediterranean Sea. Chef Evan Parker's menu includes carciofi (Roman-style artichokes), the Middle Eastern salad fattoush with feta sourced from Lucky Layla Farms in Garland, a lamb chorizo burger, and petite tenderloin from 44 Farms.
But Parker is probably most excited about his scallop dish, presented with woody and sweet French lentils, Spanish chorizo, and za'atar-spiced carrot in a sherry vinaigrette. It's a powerful bite, and might just be perfect for a celebratory lunch date in the clouds.
Speaking of clouds, each room at Strato 550 is named after a cloud formation (the dining rooms are called Stratus and Cumulus, while meeting rooms are Altostratus, Cirrus, Cumulonimbus, and Nimbus). The main dining room includes a lounge area that'll be open for happy hour. And there's potential for a rooftop space at Strato 550, but right now it's just a concrete area that's unprotected and not open to the public. The team there is hoping to create an additional dining or lounge space there; if that happens: talk about location.
