It's a can-can!

Sept. 1 is going to be a big day. That's when bills signed by Gov. Abbott during the 86th Legislature session become law, which means it's the day beer to-go sales can begin. A few breweries have announced events to mark the day, and we'll be out there celebrating with everyone else.

News & Events

Holler Brewing (owner John Holler has been a major advocate of beer-to-go), is ready for the fun. It will have cans of Dollar Pils Y'All, ESP, Euro-Treasure, Good Clean Fun IPA, Haze the Roof IPA, and Czech My Phone available at Extravacanza, held 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 1. Eddie O's BBQ will be parked for your hungry bellies.

And True Anomaly has announced that on Sept. 1, it'll celebrate with a Connect 4 Tournament. Plenty of growlers will available, too.

It's not too late to mark the 50-year anniversary of the American moon landing. Saint Arnold is hosting a fun event this weekend with University of Texas's McDonald Observatory, which recently shined a laser off of a reflector left on the Moon during Apollo 11. A celebration of that occasion is set for 4 p.m. Sunday at the Saint Arnold Beer Hall. Get tickets, which include a pour, here.

If you missed the three-year anniversary festivities at Eureka Heights, the brewery is taking over taps at a few local joints over the next couple weeks. Check them out today at Nobi Public House in Webster.

Vallensons' Brewing is unveiling a new logo Friday night. Fun starts at 6 p.m. Shirts will be available, including in a giveaway.

Beer Releases

The newest Saint Arnold offering, Bishop's Barrel 24, is beginning to show its face in the wild. This is a 14.7 percent ABV imperial stout aged in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels for 19 months.

Baileson Brewing brewed up a beer to honor Rice football and head coach Mike Bloomgren. Called Intellectual Brewtality, it's a 5.4 percent ABV Belgian pale using pilsner malts and Czech Saaz and Huell Melon hops. A little yeasty, a little clean, a little biting.

It's time for the Oktoberfest beers. Karbachtoberfest from Karbach is available. And look for the 11 Below version. The brewery will throw a party at 5 p.m. Aug. 30 to mark its release.

New beers this week at Ingenious: Mango Kiwi Double FroYo, a milkshake-style NEIPA conditioned on mangoes and kiwi; Berries n Cream Double FroYo, a milkshake-style double NEIPA conditioned on blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and vanilla beans.

This week's B-52 releases are Before the Internet: The Floor is Lava, a hazy double IPA dry hopped on Citra and Galaxy hops; and Before the Internet: The Floor is Lava Blackberry & Strawberry MilkShake Edition. It's kind of self-explanatory.

In case you missed it, Astral released a double hazy IPA called Double Nebulous. It's brewed with Citra (naturally) and Idaho 7 hops.

And 4J now has a strawberry blonde, which it brewed to mark the birthday of co-owner  and brewmaster Jennifer Edwards.
