As you might have heard, the beloved drive-in movie theater has reentered mainstream entertainment in the wake of COVID-19, since social distancing is pretty much built into its very concept. But the Parking Lot Social, a new venture into COVID-proof entertainment, is putting a modern twist on this retro pastime we’ve become reacquainted with in our pandemic-run world. And it offers much more than movies—in fact, it’s everything you love and miss about karaoke bars, live music venues, bingo halls, trivia nights, and comedy clubs, all packed into one parking lot and enjoyable from the comfort of your car.

Created by XL Event Lab, the same entertainment company that hauled the world’s largest bounce house across the nation last year, the Parking Lot Social, which kicks off a nationwide tour this week in Houston, was developed as “mini-festival that takes place right inside your very own car,” according to press materials. Each day differentiated by its own unique lineup of interactive experiences.

It all starts on Wednesday evening with comedy night, where local stand-up comedians will take the stage for an hour and a half of hilarity. Thursday evening will feature a classic drive-in experience with a family-friendly movie, while Friday, Saturday and Sunday are when the Parking Lot Social opens the floodgates for all kinds of interactive fun. Live bands will perform radio hits to sing along to during Car-A-Oke and sanitized wireless headphones will be handed out for a massive silent disco led by live DJs, among other events like themed trivia and bingo. For a more thrilling late-night experience, stick around after the sun goes down on Friday and Saturday for Midnight Movies that amp up the action and scares with flicks like Jurassic Park and Scream.

With such a range of events, the Parking Lot Social is designed to entertain every age group. And since both parents and their kiddos need some relief from watching the same carousel of Disney and Nickelodeon shows they’ve been viewing since March, the Parking Lot Social has dedicated two entire days to kid-themed fun with its Social Kids events, says Danielle Hodge, a producer of the Parking Lot Social. “The kids have been cooped up so I think this is a really cool experience for the weekend. It’s really good to point that out to the parents that this is something fun and safe for everyone to do.”
