Celebrate the Best of the Islands at the Houston Caribbean Festival

The Houston Caribbean Festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month with a five-day takeover.

Temperatures are rising, and for some of us, travel plans are in full motion. But if you’re looking to experience the essence and nightlife of your favorite islands right here in Houston, bust out your best Dutty Wine and head on over to the Houston Caribbean Festival.
With next week marking the fête’s 20th anniversary, it’s right on time to close out Caribbean Heritage Month with a full five days to indulge in food, move your body to the rhythm of the music, and revel in the diverse cultures of the islands, from Barbados and the Bahamas to Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Not in the mood for nightlife? No worries: local organization I Love Being Caribbean has partnered with Puma’s Business Creation and the Caribbean Women’s Expo to host a Caribbean Craft Market this Saturday, June 25, which features authentic Caribbean “cookshop” cuisine, music, networking, and shopping.
But if you’re wondering how to join in on the fun, here is the official list of events for the festival:
Operation Carnival Camo Fete
Wednesday, June 29 at 9 p.m
Start off the week with this kickoff party. For those 18 and over, come to celebrate in your freshest camo wear, as there will be appearances by the hottest Caribbean DJs! Tickets are $20 and are available here.
Ultra GLO!
Thursday, June 30 at 8 p.m
On the second day of the festival, you must come to this event dressed to impress in your touch of white, as the party will feature more than 50 UV lights to send this glow party to the next level. Tickets are officially sold out.
Jouvert
Friday, July 1 at 8 p.m
The famous party of color returns, so be prepared to get dirty and party until the sun comes up. The atmosphere will be filled with fun, food, oil, and water, so don’t make the mistake of coming dressed in your best. Tickets are $20 and are available here.
Splash Pool Party
Saturday, July 2
For this pool party at the Grand Tuscany Hotel, come in your cutest swimwear to soak up some sun and have water fun! Sections and tables are available for purchase, but do remember to drink responsibly. Tickets are $25 and are available here.
Parade of the Bands
Sunday, July 3 at 3 p.m
The event we are all anticipating, one that is welcoming to all ages, is the annual parade. This street parade will include stilt walkers, floats, musical performances by bands featuring genres like reggae and soca, and more. The parade gates will open at 2 p.m. at GSH Event Center, 9550 W Bellfort Ave. Tickets are $25 and are available here; kids under 12 are free.
