The area just got a big wine boost, thanks to the opening of the Messina Hof Winery's new location, Messina Hof Harvest Green Winery & Kitchen at 8921 Harlem Rd in Richmond.
Messina Hof says Harvest Green Winery & Kitchen is the Houston area's largest winery. Based in Harvest Green, a planned farm community established by Johnson Development Corp, it includes a large public tasting room, two private tasting rooms, 83-foot wine bar, barrel room, and wine warehouse, and a full-service restaurant.
The winery will process wine at the facility, and all shipping operations will go through there, signifying a major leap in the evolution of the Bryan-based producer.
"The expansion of our business with the addition of Messina Hof Harvest Green Winery & Kitchen is a continuation of our vision to innovate and grow Texas wine," Messina Hof Chief Executive Officer Paul M. Bonarrigo said in a press release. "We look forward to inviting new guests and familiar faces alike into our doors and to our tables to experience our top-notch hospitality, innovative 'Vineyard Cuisine' and signature Texas wine."
At the restaurant, look for items that marry Messina Hof wine with locally grown herbs and vegetables, a concept that the winery has trademarked as "Vineyard Cuisine." Dishes will include Neapolitan-style pizza from a Mugnaini wood-fired oven, pork chop with fig agrodolce, and bread pudding.
For the first few weeks, Harvest Green Winery & Kitchen will be under a soft-opening, hosting events and keeping limited hours: 4 to 9 p.m. Monday–Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday–Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. After a grand opening later in the month, the hours will expand.
