Comfort Food Takeout Guide: Rice Village/West University

Healthy offerings and Jewish classics are among the favorites here.

Hungry’s

For 45 years the Hungry’s name has been synonymous with comfort food, albeit a healthier iteration. Dial in on vegetarian and vegan dishes like seitan tacos with cabbage slaw and avocado relish, and a big Nutritious Bowl filled with brown rice, black beans, seasonal veggies, and two quinoa and kale patties. Hungry’s also sells takeout brunch meals fit for two to three, including breakfast tacos and chicken and waffles.

Kenny & Ziggy’s

The beloved New York–inspired delicatessen, with its festive celebrity cartoon artwork and massive menu, has been stacking triple-decker sandwiches of chopped liver and pastrami on rye since 1999. If you have a soft spot for the Big Apple, you’ll feel right at home with the matzo ball soup, Catskills-quality borscht, and bagels with a generous dollop of whitefish. Now eat, eat! You look too skinny!
