Skip the typical holiday dinner and opt for dining out at one of these Houston establishments

Gone are the days of the typical turkey and dressing for Christmas dinner. With the many award-winning and five star restaurants in the city, there’s a plethora of options to choose from if you want to elevate your holiday meals. 

We’ve compiled a list of unique and delicious places to eat on Christmas Day and Christmas Eve. From Indian and Mediterranean fare to French-American cuisine and crafted cocktails, there’s something palatable for everyone this season.

Serving Only on Christmas Eve

Feges BBQ

Feges BBQ will not have a dine-in experience available on Christmas Eve, but will be taking online orders through December 17 for pick up at either location on Dec. 22, 23 and 24. a’Bouzy

Join a’Bouzy for a special Christmas Eve brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Plus a Christmas Eve take-out special, which will feature a lamb dish and bottle of wine. Julep

 Julep is all decked out for the holidays, and they’ve just dropped their holiday menu with cocktails like the Apple Butter Old Fashioned and Mulled Wine Sour. Celebrate a night out with friends at Julep, open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Christmas eve. Julep, 1919 Washington Ave.

 

 Traveler’s Table

 The globally-inspired restaurant Traveler’s Table invites you to sleigh the holidays this year with their $65 per person 3-course prix fixe menu. The catered course comes with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine if you and your family opt to dine in, or a single-serve bottle if you choose to-go.  Traveler’s Table, 520 Westheimer Road. 

Rosalie 

Have an Italian-inspired holiday with Rosalie this Christmas Eve. Celebrate the Feast of Seven Fishes, one of Italy’s most prized traditions. At Rosalie, the custom is honored with a menu featuring scallops, mussels, octopus, tuna, squid, monkfish and manila clams. The Feast of the Seven Fishes will be available on Christmas Eve, with dinner from 5-10 p.m. For only $75, enjoy an array of fish and seasonal cocktails, such as the Naughty or Spiced, a festive take on a bourbon old fashioned, or Rudolph’s Tipsy Spritzer, made with grapefruit cardamom gin spritz.  Postino

The widely popular wine cafe has created the optimal holiday bundle that will feed your entire holiday party. Made to serve 15-20 people, choose from select appetizers like Meatballs and Goat Cheese or their one-of-a-kind charcuterie boards. For $275, you’ll also get to choose from the cafe’s top four go-to wines for the holidays, including a fabulous hand-picked selection of Fable Chardonnay, Coeur de la Reine Gamay, Rickshaw Cabernet Sauvignon, and a delightful CNVE Brut Rosé along with two different pack sizes; a 2-pack for $30 or a 4-pack for $55. Steak 48

Elevate your holiday experience this year with a dinner from Steak 48. For Christmas Eve, the restaurant will serve its full dinner menu, complete with signature small plates and delicious sides. Meals will be available during regular business hours, from 4-11 p.m. Steak 48, 4444 Westheimer Road.  

Ouzo Bay

Get a taste of the Mediterranean this holiday season at Ouzo Bay. Open on Christmas Eve until 10:00 p.m., the restaurant will feature a Wagyu Flat Iron Steak with spice yogurt, arugula and shallots, and the Chilean Sea Bass featuring charred romanesco, crumbled olives and demi-sec cherry tomatoes. Reservations are encouraged.  Ouzo Bay, 4444 Westheimer Road.  

Gatsby’s Prime Steakhouse

Take a trip back to the 1920’s for the holidays at Gatsby’s Prime Steakhouse, the speakeasy style bar located in Montrose. The restaurant will offer their full menu on Christmas Eve, plus patrons can indulge in their newly expanded restaurant, taking over the former Daisy Buchanan bar. Enjoy the finest USDA prime steaks, along with seafood offerings like steamed lobster tail and ahi tuna. Gatsby’s Prime Steakhouse, 4319 Montrose Boulevard. 

Loch Bar

If you enjoy seafood, the Loch Bar is where you need to be for Christmas Eve. The seafood tavern will be open during its regular hours of operation this year, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. Whether you want a filet mignon or the shellfish tower with oysters, clams and shrimp, you’ll surely leave the Loch Bar full and satisfied. Loch Bar, 4444 Westheimer Road.  

Serving Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 

The Rustic

Join The Rustic Post Oak, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., for its annual celebration of opening home-made tamales and choosing from an assortment of cold beer on The Rustic’s original beer bottle Christmas tree. Plus, if you want a last minute stocking stuffer, they will have holiday gift cards available at various prices based on how much you spend on your tab. The Rustic, 1121 Uptown Park Blvd. Ste 4.

Safina Mediterranean

Ring in the holiday season at Safina Mediterranean, located inside of the posh InterContinental Hotel Houston. Enjoy a three-course meal with starters like roasted cauliflower soup or a burrata salad with herb-roasted beets, and enjoy an entree choice of either the filet mignon and mashed potatoes, the pan-seared sea-bass or the orange glazed duck breast with butternut squash mash. For dessert and a nightcap, choose from a slice of tres leches or pecan pie with a side of eggnog. Safina Mediterranean, 6750 Main St. 

Musaafer

 This holiday, Musaafer is offering a combination of spiced turkey, cranberry chutney, cumin celeriac mash, gold dust blueberries and a makhani sauce. For dessert, enjoy a Christmas cake made from scratch with plum cake, allspice rabdi, candid pumpkin and gingerbread. Open during regular business hours 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. for lunch and dinner. Sorriso 

Make spirits bright at Sorriso Italian Kitchen. Choose between braised veal ossobuco with truffle pappardelle and gremolata or Texas Venison Ragu with Pecorino Romano Polenta and root vegetables. For dessert, indulge in black forest cake topped with cherries. Sorriso, 2 Waterway Square Place, The Woodlands.

Bowl & Barrel

Head to Bowl & Barrel on Christmas Day for Drink the Tree! From 3-9 p.m., the boutique bowling alley will host its annual celebration of bowling and drinking cold beer.
