It makes sense that National Fried Chicken Day happens every year on July 6, on the heels of the nation’s birthday. Fried chicken is an American culinary institution, and it’s one of the few national food holidays worth actually celebrating every year. Whether you like your fried chicken served in pieces, on a sandwich, or as endlessly versatile wings, there’s nothing that quite hits the spot like the nation’s favorite thing to fry

In honor of all things fried chicken, we’ve put together a list of some local restaurants that are rolling out the red carpet this Wednesday for America’s favorite dish. See below for our picks.

Dish Society

When it comes to fried chicken, the most important thing is variety, and you can find that at farm-to-table restaurant staple Dish Society. The beloved restaurant plays host to a menu that includes a very spicy hot chicken sandwich, chicken and biscuits, and a crispy chicken kale Caesar salad for those who want to cheat but not too much. We think you should just call it a day and order all three. After all, National Fried Chicken Day only comes once a year.

Frank’s Americana Revival

To celebrate National Fried Chicken Day, Frank’s Americana Revival will be featuring its famous buttermilk fried chicken served with whipped potatoes, sauteed green beans, a homestyle biscuit, bread ’n’ butter pickles, and wildflower honey. The meal, priced at $26, also comes with a free dessert of choice.

Kin Dee

Fried chicken is beloved around the world, so why not ring in fried chicken’s biggest day at Heights Thai hot spot Kin Dee? On National Fried Chicken Day, the restaurant will be offering a free Singha (a very good Thai beer) to guests who order the kat thod, which are crispy, marinated chicken wings served in a tamarind sauce. As a special treat, Kin Dee will be featuring the live flamenco music of Amin Safari this Wednesday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.—because the only thing that enhances spicy fried chicken better than a refreshing beer is some equally spicy music.

Loch Bar

Houston’s reigning seafood tavern will be celebrating National Fried Chicken Day by serving up their Eastern Shore Fried Chicken, a juicy and perfectly seasoned bird that comes as a half chicken ($28) or a whole chicken ($49). Fried and battered in-house, the bird comes with your choice of fries or garlic mashed potatoes.

Pier 6 Seafood & Oyster House

If you’re looking to celebrate National Fried Chicken Day but also want to satisfy your sweet tooth, there’s no better option than the hot chicken doughnut at Pier 6 Seafood & Oyster House. The sweet and crispy indulgence comes with juicy fried chicken, honey hot sauce, a glazed doughnut, and a fried egg.

This buzzy Montrose Italian steakhouse may be known for its red meat, but the fried chicken here is also worth writing home about. Fried chicken connoisseurs should celebrate the nation’s most important food holiday by ordering themselves a plate of Marmo’s Tuscan Fried Chicken, served with artichokes, lemon, and garlic aioli. Consider pairing your meal with sides like roasted fingerling potatoes with garlic and rosemary or broccolini with chile, garlic, and lemon.

Roots Wine Bar

Houston’s only self-serve wine concept is spicing things up this National Fried Chicken Day with their brand-new fried chicken special. Birds and Bubbles, available only on Wednesdays, is a feast composed of half a bird, sorghum-glazed biscuits with a side of hot honey, and a bottle of Champagne—all for only $30. Pro tip: make it a whole bird for $40.

Rosalie Italian Soul

C. Baldwin–located homestyle Italian restaurant Rosalie wants you to indulge in its fried chicken sandwich this National Fried Chicken Day. The sandwich, available daily on the restaurant’s lunch menu, comes with provolone, Mama Lil’s Peppers, and a side of French fries.
