At the 11th annual Via Colori festival, tens of thousands of Houstonians are expected to descend upon the streets surrounding City Hall’s Hermann Square, to watch 250 artists turn it into a temporary wonderland using just their creativity and loads of chalk, all to raise money for local nonprofit The Center for Hearing and Speech. This year’s theme, “A Colorful World,” means some of the artworks will touch on world cultures, but expect drawings to run the gamut, with plenty of post-election snark and satire thrown in. Come for the art; stay for the food trucks, beer gardens and live music from American Idol contestant Jessica Meuse. And pray for clear skies.
