Spice Up The Quarantine

10 Places To Get Boiled Crawfish Right Now

There are still more than a few spots offering mudbugs for take-home enjoyment.

Crawfish is still amazing when you bring it home.

Something else impacted by the COVID-19? Crawfish boils.

While it seems trivial to discuss crawfish boils amid this global pandemic, I miss them. I miss the camaraderie of sharing a big ol' bag or bowl with someone. I miss clanking beers and diving into the mess. I miss getting juices on my hands and—ahem—wiping them off.

It's April, which means we're in peak crawfish season (read up on mudbugs here). We all should be out on picnic tables in the cool sun devouring the meat inside those little mudbugs; instead, we're all staying in the house and keeping safe, which is the right thing to do. We'll get out there soon enough, but luckily we can still get crawfish. Restaurants specializing in boiled mudbugs are finding ways to get them to you, so here are a few places serving them up right now:

BB's Tex-Orleans: Oh yeah, you can still get that unique BB's flavor. Both the Tex-Orleans style and Louisiana style are available with all the pile-ons, sides, and such. BB's is doing take-out and delivery; plus, you can purchase toilet paper and bottled water at some locations, if available.

Boil House: The venerable Heights crawfish spot known for its flawless Cajun style has the good stuff to-go. You can carry it out, get it delivered, or grab it from the shack's drive-thru, which has always been in operation. Boil House is open 5–9 p.m. Wednesday–Friday, 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Saturday–Sunday.

Crawfish & Noodles: You can still hit up Houston's most famous Viet-Cajun purveyor, though the hours are slightly different (5–9 p.m. Monday–Friday, noon–9 p.m. Saturday–Sunday). You can call at 281-988-8098 or head to its Facebook page to leave a message with your order (just follow the format listed in the pinned post).

88 Boiling Crawfish: The celebrated, homey restaurant on Wilcrest may not have an open patio, but you can pick up mudbugs here. Hours have shifted: 2–9 p.m. Tuesday–Wednesday, 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Thursday–Sunday. Call 713-789-8288.

Goode Company Taqueria: Goode Co. set up a drive-thru last weekend, so keep an eye out for another Saturday and Sunday full of crustacean-fueled happiness. The mudbugs are a little pricier at Goode Co. ($20 for 2.5 pounds), though an order includes corn and potatoes. Beer is available to-go.

Jolynn's Crawfish Restaurant: This is as small business as it gets, with one family doing just about all the work at this Beechnut spot. Call 281-988-5870 to order pick-up or delivery.

LA Crawfish: All locations of this popular chain are open for take-out orders. Get up to five pounds, though it's definitely a pricey item (a pound is going for nearly $8.50 right now).

Phat Eatery: Chef Alex Au-Yeung is finding numerous ways to keep his Malaysian restaurant going through these times. He's offering a heck of a Thursday–Sunday happy hour deal: $4 per pound 4–5 p.m., $5 per pound 5–6 p.m., and $6 per pound after that. Call 832-913-6382.

Ragin' Cajun: The stalwart Richmond Avenue spot and its Westchase sibling are open for take-out. You should call to order crawfish, though, as the website isn't listing mudbugs to order. Call the original at 713-623-6321 or Westchase at 832-251-7171.

Bonus: Okay, we had 10, but just as this published we found out one of the 10 temporarily paused service altogether. So here's a new 10th: The Rouxpour in Memorial City is hosting a special to-go boil this weekend. For $30 get three pounds of mudbugs, a dozen chilled shrimp, corn and potatoes. You can also add sausage, boudin balls, and more. And The Rouxpour is selling to-go cocktails, so it's party time.
