Aspiring designers and entrepreneurs gathered at Tout Suite cafe for leadership advice from fashion industry leaders last week. The event was hosted by Fashion Group International, a nonprofit organization for industry professionals. Panelists included Stash Co owner Cheryl Schulke, Do or Dye TX Salon owner Brandi Lisenbe, Settlement Goods & Design boutique owner Jenny Morgan, Langford Market brand director Davina Tweedy, and Melodrama boutique owner Jackie Adams. Last but certainly not least, the panel was moderated by frequent Houstonia contributor Sarah Gabbart. The panel discussed the challenges and rewards of owning a business, ranging from advice for social media to avoiding undesirable business partners to local manufacturing. Instagram, the women agreed, is currently the ideal place to promote brands and reach customers. Panelist and Stash Co owner Cheryl Schulke captured the spirit of the event with a quote from the late Maya Angelou: “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”
