The city’s first multi-sensory festival engulfed the Silver Street Studios campus last weekend. From the minds behind Free Press Summer Fest, Day For Night combined elements of music and transcendent visual art to create a one-stop sensory smorgasbord.
Three concert stages and 16 art exhibits scattered the festival grounds, as attendees drifted through oceanic spaces of light and smoke. Pulsating strobe lights illuminated silhouetted concertgoers as they gazed at the vibrant and entrancing graphic creations from some of the world’s foremost visual artists. If staring at dynamized projections was not appealing enough, there were performances from bands like Janelle Monae, New Order and multi-nominated Grammy frontrunner Kendrick Lamar. “…Houston is like my second home,” declared Lamar moments before he pulled members of the crowd onto the stage to perform “M.A.A.D City” with him among the lingering haze and smoky night air.
