What: UT Health School of Public Health Nourish luncheon

Guests were treated to a thought-provoking conversation about food and its impact on the well-being of individuals and communities. The luncheon also served to educate guests about a new high-tech education initiative that will create a unique nutrition hub and training ground for students, professionals and members of the community at large. This hub includes a culinary research and development kitchen, a simulation lab and plans for a holistic garden to be planted this spring outside the UTHealth School of Public Health building in the Texas Medical Center. The event raised more than $160,000 to support the endeavor.
Cathy Brock and Sue Smith served as the luncheon chairs. Shara Fryer emceed the event, which honored Registered Dietitian Laura Moore and Don Sanders for their contributions to the health of Texas, including a $685,000 gift to launch a collaborative nutrition education initiative and state-of-the-art training facilities at UTHealth School of Public Health. Clinicial Dietitian Roberta Anding, Restauranteur Johnny Carrabba and Horticulturist and Garden Designer Joseph Novak were the keynote panelists, serving up food for thought on nutrition, gardening and well-being.
There were close to 300 guests in attendance, including UTHealth President Giuseppe N. Colasurdo, Joanne King Herring, Shreela Sharma, Julius and Suzan Glickman, Bette Thomas, Dr. Faiyaz and Mariam Maribel Bhojani, Robert Stillwell, Ginni Mithoff, Terrie Turner and the Honorable John H. Whitmire.
At the center of each table was a gorgeous basket of fresh fruit generously donated by H-E-B. Guests were encouraged to “grocery shop” and take the fresh produce home to share with their families. Lunch included consommé with fresh herbs and vegetables, a perfectly seasoned fish dish paired with leafy greens and healthy grains, and fresh seasonal berries with light cream for dessert.
