WHAT: St. Luke’s Foundation “Evening with the Architects”
WHEN: Wednesday, May 25, 2016
WHERE: Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, McNair campus, 7200 Cambridge Street
EMCEE: William Brien, MD, Interim President and Chief Clinical Officer, Baylor St. Luke’s
DETAILS: About 85 top donors and supporters were treated to dinner and a preview presentation by three HKS architects – Ralph Hawkins, Norman Morgan, and Jason Schroer – on designs to expand the new Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center. The expansion includes construction of a second hospital tower and the future site of the Texas Heart® Institute. The project connects medical efficiency with pleasing aesthetics, making it a paragon for years to come, said Michael Covert, president of CHI St. Luke’s Health. Jerome Granato, MD, Catholic Health Initiatives vice president and medical director, national cardiovascular service line, also joined the event. Several guests donned hard hats to view the new hospital rooms with large windows; state-of-the-art operating rooms and other areas still under construction.
WHY: The 27.5-acre, $1.1 billion expansion of the McNair Campus was announced last December as the new home for the Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, including an expanded emergency department, THI, and research facilities. Completion is expected by 2019 and will have up to a 650-bed capacity. The project is the collaboration between Catholic Health Initiatives and Baylor College of Medicine.
