When you walk into Jack & Ginger's, the Irish bar concept from Austin-based Union Venture Group that opened Tuesday, the first thing you'll notice is space. The first of two UVG spots on Brazos and Bremond (the second is 77 Degrees rooftop bar, slated for later in 2018 or early 2019), Jack & Ginger's feels like the kind of high-volume bar that'll be packed but still look tempting to passersby at 11:30 p.m. on a Friday.

There are two bar spaces here: a patio area with garage doors and picnic tables, and a more subdued, wood-toned, classic Irish pub area. Each bar has 82 beers on tap, ranging from local favorites to domestic craft and macro to, of course, European and Irish highlights like Carlsberg, Boddingtons, and Guinness. Specialty cocktails include the mildly fruity Irish Rose and a nitro cold brew using Katz Coffee. That, and a hot Irish coffee (topped with cold Bailey's) would make great partners during this chilly spell.

Jack & Ginger's also has some true food highlights. I'd happily chow down on its Irish-style burger, constituting of a short rib patty, mashed potatoes, cheddar, green goddess spread, and whiskey onions. A large pretzel given a chocolate infusion and topped with ghost pepper salt has a fun sweetness and heat that stays with you. And a traditional Irish breakfast is served all day with black pudding and ... a hot dog. Alright then. It sounds tasty with a cold stout or two.

The bar will be open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday to Sunday. It promises early opening for British Premiere League games, a Sunday brunch (in the works), and a Wednesday 3 to 7 p.m. happy hour called Bangers on Humpday (10 different sausage-on-bun options for $5 each). Regular happy hour is 3 to 7 p.m. on weekdays and features $7 beer flights and $5 appetizers.

Jack & Ginger's and 77 Degrees are two of four new concepts that will populate the block at Brazos and Bremond. Unicorn Disco, from the team behind Handlebar, as well as a new venture from the Dogwood guys will be right there, too. Get ready for lots of Ubers pulling up, plenty of foot traffic, and a noisy good time.
