Hosted in the courtyard of beautiful Heights Haven, a historic home off 18th Street, guests will be treated to a lavish, five-course dinner by celebrated Thai Chef Benchawan Jabthong Painter. Unique sparkling wines will be individually chosen for each course, followed by a Champagne toast at midnight.

Chef Benchawan and husband Graham Painter launched their pop-up group, Street to Kitchen, to bring Thai taste and sensibility to Houston. “The essence of being Thai is encapsulated in the concept of sanook, which loosely translates as fun in English” says Graham, a long-time expat in Bangkok. “Our goal is to inject the warm-hearted, fun and friendly Thai spirit into our events. Nothing excites us more than watching our guests arrive individually or in small groups and ending the night smilingly with new friends.”

Before working with star chefs Justin Yu, Brandi Key and Willie Ducante, Chef Benchawan began her cooking career in Thailand at the age of six in her grandmother’s neighborhood restaurant. Noting her aptitude and love for cooking, Benchawan’s grandmother taught her and entrusted her with cooking all the Thai classics, using locally farmed ingredients.

Since arriving in Houston from Thailand, Chef Benchawan has carried on her grandmother’s tradition, sourcing locally and making everything from scratch. “Authentic Thai food is not about recycling old Thai recipes. It is about creating a perfect balance with fresh, local ingredients,” says Chef Benchawan. “Thai food is all about texture, taste and appearance. It is the art of marrying unexpected ingredients to create delicious outcomes.”

Chef Benchawan's heart for cooking is as big as her smile, with love as her secret ingredient.
