A new Street Festival in Rice Village this month made the case for renaming "catwalk" to "dogwalk." A series of outdoor fashion shows, meant to showcase looks from Rice Village retailers, culminated in a runway performance by pups and their owners from Houston-based Bring Your Own Dog.

Before that, two-legged models donned apparel from Altar'd State, Pomp and Circumstance, Lily Rain, and Chloe Dao–the latter is both a longstanding Rice Village tenant and the season two winner of Project Runway.

The April 7 event shut down Amherst Street so pedestrians could wander freely between food trucks, vendor booths, kids' activities, live music, and more. The spring event is the first of its kind from the lifestyle district which, after a well-received sing-off in November, sought a festive, seasonally appropriate addition to its programing. General manager Donna Molho said Rice Village plans to hold more community-centric events in the future.
