The great Carrie Bradshaw said it best: "I like my money right where I can see it–hanging in my closet." Sex and the City, the iconic HBO show responsible for legions of women being led to believe a newspaper columnist's salary could afford a spacious Upper East Side apartment and seemingly unlimited designer shoe budget, premiered 20 years ago this month. A lot has changed since then, but much remains the same: dating woes are still prime brunch fodder, chemical peels can go terribly wrong, there are questionable Russians, and maybe, just maybe, our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with.
As much as we love Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda–and hold tight to our preferred character identification (I'm a Carrie, obviously)–there was really a fifth, uncredited protagonist in the groundbreaking show: the fashion. From tutus to power suits and berets to Birkins, there's still outfit inspiration to be had in every episode. Here are a few of our favorite pieces inspired by the beloved series–some nods more obvious than others.
