The local JDRF chapter's 20th Anniversary Promise Ball late last month was truly a shining success. Glittering gowns and shimmering chandeliers were the perfect celebration of the gala's platinum year, and a whopping $1.9 million raised didn't hurt, either.

Following cocktails, a silent auction, and a seated dinner at the Hilton Americas-Houston, guests honored local individuals who've been personally impacted by Type 1 diabetes. Chaired by Mary and Mark D'Andrea and presented by Hagans Montgomery & Rustay, P.C., the event recognized 2019 Promise Ball Honoree Daniel Yates, who has raised more than $500,000 for the cause following his son's diagnosis. Dr. Alana Spiwak and Sam Stolbun received the Fielding and Meredith Cocke Visionary Award, which held particular significance this year as the couple was also honoring the 20th anniversary of their daughter's diagnosis.

After the moving program and an opportunity to contribute to JDRF's Fund A Cure initiative, a night of glamorous fun ensued. Hot tickets to the American Music Awards and the Kentucky Derby earned high bids from partygoers at the live auction, as did a Goldendoodle puppy looking for a good home. The Liskow & Lewis After-Party kept guests entertained until the wee hours with music from Professor D, casino games, scotch tasting, and obligatory breakfast tacos.
