On May 29, cocktail aficionados convened on the pool deck at Hotel ZaZa Memorial City to taste and vote on their favorite space themed cocktail. The competing bartenders—Ryan Perry from Lotti Dotti; Matt Medina from Blanco Taco’s and Tequila; Joham Jordan from Tipping Point Restaurant and Terrace; Leo Perdina from The Post Oak Hotel; Veronica Requena from Calle Onze; and Federcio Montemayor Jr. from Prohibition Supper Club—each received a different spirit from Diageo's Reserve Portfolio and tasked with creating their best summer cocktail recipe themed to the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

The names of the drinks were as spectacular as the drinks themselves. Matt Medina won the People's Choice award for his Don Julio creation (also incorporating charcoal) called Tranquility Leap for Man Kind, and Ryan Perry won the Judges' Choice for the Moon Communion featuring Ron Zacapa 23 with a malbec floater.

The event raised over $3,000 for the Candlelighter’s Organization, whose mission is to provide emotional, educational, and practical support to children battling cancer and their families. The summer competition's judges panel comprised of Houstonia's very own Timothy Malcolm; Robby Cook, the Houston Chapter President of the United States Bartenders Guild, and Southern Glazer’s mixologist; and Araz Garakanian, best known for her blog houstoneateries.
