Houston animal lovers donned their fiercest, most fabulous outfits and partied for philanthropy last Saturday night, celebrating 15 years of Houston PetSet—the local animal welfare nonprofit—and raising more than $440,000 for the cause.

The party at the Post Oak Hotel drew more than 400 supporters, including guests of honor Kara and Lance McCullers. The Astros pitcher and his wife are noted animal activists who run the Lance McCullers Jr. Foundation, promoting pet adoptions, no-kill shelters, and animal welfare programs.

Twins and PetSet co-presidents Tena Lundquist Faust and Tama Lundquist co-chaired the event along with Kisha Itkin; Deborah Duncan emceed, and guest speakers included Rev. Gregory Han of Interfaith Ministries, Laura Halloran of the Texas Humane Legislation Network, and McCullers.

Before the main event, Fabergé hosted a VIP pre-party with help from DJ Senega, saxophonist Andre Killian, and plenty of champagne. The iconic jeweler also displayed its contribution to the night's live auction: a bespoke 2-carat emerald and setting.

Local design house Magpies & Peacocks curated the boutique silent auction items, including a signed Jose Altuve jersey, a George H.W. Bush-signed photo with Babe Ruth, and a hand-painted dog statue by artist Cynthia Sanders.

Guests were reminded of the sober mission behind the evening's festivities when a documentary screening took them on a virtual field trip through the "Corridor of Cruelty," which emphasized the problem of animal homelessness. Many were stirred to open their hearts and wallets to aid PetSet's mission of supporting the Greater Houston area's array of animal welfare organizations—to date, PetSet has gifted more than $2.5 million in direct financial support to dozens of such charities.

After the official soiree concluded, PetSet's young professional arm transformed the Post Oak ballroom into a nightclub that kept after-partiers dancing until the lights came on at 1 a.m.—at which point celebrations were rumored to continue at the hotel's swank H Bar.
