The Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans held its 14th annual gala on October 19 at the Hilton Post Oak Hotel.
Mayor Sylvester Turner addressed the group of 400 via video. Philamena and Arthur Baird served as honorary co-chairs of the gala, and gala co-chairs were Terry Morales, Christina Morales and Gilda Ramirez. One of AAMA’s former board members, Raul Dominguez, was recognized posthumously, with his sons Rafael and Raul Dominguez along with his widow Dolores accepting the award on his behalf.
The formal event included dinner, auctions and dancing. More than $280,000 was raised to further AAMA’s work of enabling individuals to realize their full potential.
AAMA was established as a nonprofit in 1970 and provides services to more than 13,000 individuals annually. The mission of AAMA is to inspire and empower Latinos to pursue their potential and achieve success.
