As cupid gears up to strike around the city, women everywhere are plotting their glam-themed looks. For those who are still browsing the racks, Houston fashion blogger Vidhya Ramachandra shares her tips for putting together romantic Valentine’s Day outfits.

The pandemic reshaped the lives of many, for Ramachandra, it re-opened the door to fashion and the possibility to become a style influencer. Scrolling through her Instagram, you instantly find inspiration to experiment with monochromatic colors and a pile of patterns.

“For me, fashion has always been something that I've always enjoyed,” Ramachandra tells Houstonia. “The influencing aspect was an outlet that came about in the early stages of the pandemic. Although I’m a pretty social person and love dressing up, I worked full time and wasn’t able to do the stuff I like to do, such as go out and get ready, or shop. I channeled all of that energy into creating content via things like my blog post or Instagram and then TikTok as well.”

While some may be throwing on strappy heels and heading to an extravagant dinner, others might snag a box of chocolates for a marathon of romantic comedies on Netflix. Therefore, an outfit will ultimately depend on the plans and the vibe going into the holiday.

“Three main tips that I would focus on is one, where am I going? I feel like destination plays a big role in what I’ve decided to wear,” says Ramachandra. “Two is my mood. I have multiple emotions, so I'm always dressing for all of them, and three is just making sure to feel confident in whatever I wear.”

Shopping for buildable and interchangeable staples can help achieve a modern and luxurious look while staying on budget and being eco-friendly. For those who will

venture out and about around the city, a silk midi dress works as a simple yet elegant base to layer additional garments such as a jacket or scarf, along with the perfect accessories.

“Depending on where I'm going for example, a nice dinner, I would wear a fur coat, like a Sherpa or white coat,” Ramachandra says. “I would probably add a bold, red lip and statement earrings. To finish the look I’d go for a more neutral heel with a clear strap because the outfit is just so bold.”

Those who may find themselves traveling for work and stuck at the airport can also participate in a fabulous ensemble. Ramachandra suggests redefining the slip dress with a  comfortable and cozy outfit by adding two pieces that are probably in your suitcase.

“For the woman who doesn't have time and is waiting for her flight, but still wants to be dressed up, I've done this multiple times when I travel, I will wear a slip dress and just add a sweater on top of it. For instance, a white crop sweater and a pair of sneakers,” she explains. “Wherever you go, you just don't know what the weather is so adding a jacket spruces up the look while aligning with the weather. To top it off I would probably wear plain-gold hoops, nothing super fancy.”

To the women staying in and cuddling with a box of Godiva and your favorite streaming service, you can still stay dressy while in loungewear.

“If I was staying in, I’d still want to wear a really fun outfit. A sweater with lots of hearts is always festive paired with black faux leather leggings, which are also a statement piece to have,” Ramachandra recommends. “They’re super comfortable and perfect for staying in and to top off the look, a pair of fuzzy slippers and classic hoops to be comfortable and cute.”

While staying true to the Valentine’s Day palette of crimson reds and pretty pinks may be fitting for some, there isn’t a restriction on what color choices work best for an outfit or makeup.

“You don't have to follow it,” Ramachandra states. “I think it's solely based on the person because for Christmas usually I'll bring out all my reds and greens. I love it because I'm like, ‘yes, I get to wear red and pink.’ I love color blocking and red and pink together just makes such a good statement, but I will say that doesn't mean you can't just wear a sexy black dress and feel confident and great about yourself.”
