Whether you’re ready to clip into your bike, lace up the old running shoes, or simply take a stroll under these gorgeous winter skies, there’s good news, Houston: Never has our trail system been so glorious, or so out of traffic’s way. Thanks to the hard work of our city-planning visionaries, we’re currently sitting on more than 100 miles of hike-and-bike paths, running loops, mountain-bike courses, and nature trails.

We spent months exploring them all to bring you this guide, and along the way, every cyclist, dog walker, jogger, and family we encountered smiled and said hello like an old friend. A little scientific fact: Being in nature for just 20 minutes a day greatly reduces stress. So, come on! Go blaze that trail already.
