What happens when you bring together 15 of Houston’s local food and beverage vendors, a variety of local entertainment talent, and 375 Houstonians of various backgrounds?
Houston’s rich diversity comes alive.
That’s exactly what happened at The Alliance’s 3rd Annual United We Dine fundraiser event at the Kim Son Bellaire Ballroom on November 14. Proceeds from the event went to the The Alliance, an organization that provides services to refugees, immigrants, and underserved communities in Houston.Â
Cynthia Cisneros, recently coming off of a 30-year career as a reporter at ABC13, served as Mistress of Ceremonies for the night. Mayor Sylvester Turner also provided remarks underscoring the importance of Houston’s diversity to its success and laud The Alliance’s work.Â
As far as awards go, Caterpillar was recognized as the 2019 Corporate Ambassador for The Alliance due to its work at the organization’s community events. As a result of their sterling records of community service, Cynthia Cisneros and Houston City Council member Mike Laster were recognized as 2019 Community Ambassadors.Â
Throughout, patrons had the opportunity to indulge in delicious food and incredible art—all local. Food vendors included Kim Son, Churrascos, Plant It Forward Farms, Ginga Cottage, Land and Sea Sushi, Aling’s Chinese Bistro, Mezban, Layal, Fadi’s, Chefs in the City, Afghan Village Restaurant, Sweets by Belen, and Suzie’s Pastry Shoppe. At the end of the night, Afghan Village took home the People’s Choice Award.
On the stage, performers included oud player Zubair Al Awadi, Cookie Joe’s Dancin’ School, Mexican Folkloric Dancer Stephanie Hernandez, Dhadak Dance Class, and Jaz Creationz.
