Arnold Schwarzenegger addressed the large crowd at Minute Maid Park.
Now in its fifth year, the annual JJ Watt Charity Classic saw members of the Houston Texans on the diamond at Minute Maid Park on Saturday, May 13, as the pro football players tackled a totally different sport: softball. The afternoon kicked off with a homerun derby followed by a friendly ball game between the Texans’ offensive and defensive players, with a newly retired Andre Johnson batting for the latter team.
A confident JJ Watt won the homerun derby, smashing softballs right and left. Afterwards, Watt led his defense squad to victory, winning the game 9–3 with the help of fellow defensive players Brian Cushing, Whitney Mercilus and Jadaveon Clowney. Later, a cowboy hat-clad Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was in town as the commencement speaker for the University of Houston’s graduation ceremonies and enjoyed the game from the sidelines, told the crowd at a press conference he’d like to see Watt as a Hollywood superstar making action movies once his football career is finished. We can see it now…
Since its inception, the JJ Watt Charity Classic has raised over $2,965,000 to benefit the JJ Watt Foundation, which is currently headed up by Watt’s mother Connie. Its mission? Providing middle school students with after-school opportunities to become involved in athletics, instilling accountability, teamwork, leadership, work ethic and perseverance along the way.Â
