None other than Paige and Tilman Fertitta opened their home to hundreds of guests for a sold-out party last Saturday, May 4. There were all the trappings of a traditional Kentucky Derby party, from fabulous hats to mint juleps, but this was a special soiree in that it raised more than $350,000 for charity.

The well-attended affair marked the third annual Hats, Hearts & Horseshoes to benefit Bo’s Place, a local bereavement center that offers support groups and help for grieving families. Hallie Vanderhider chaired this year’s event, sharing her own personal story of loss and the importance of Bo’s Place programs to others enduring tragedy.

“Bo’s Place helps families that are grieving in their journey to find a renewed hope for the future,” executive director Mary Beth Staine said.

Megan and Luke Hotze and Hannah and Cal McNair served as honorary chairs, and Stephen Lewis and Chita Craft emceed the lively afternoon. Brightly colored, feathered, and oversized Derby hats made for excellent people watching, and guests also enjoyed tables of food, a racing wall raffle, Puppy Pals, and auction activities. Before the race, a poolside “heads or tails” game earned one lucky winner a prize from IW Marks Jewelers.

Later, everyone gathered around large screens to watch what turned out to be a historical stunner, with Country House ultimately wining with final 65-1 odds.
