This Texas-based Spa Chain Is Sharing the Love (and Its Profits) Next Week

What if your self-care routine benefited more than just you?

On March 30, Dallas-based spa Hiatus Retreat & Spa, which has a location in Tanglewood, is hosting a profit share with Jonathan’s Place, an emergency shelter for children in crisis in the Dallas area.

Called “Spa For A Cause,” the company will donate 20 percent of its online sales that day to Jonathan’s Place (be sure to use the code “JPKIDS” at checkout). Browse skincare products like body oils, exfoliators, moisturizers, and body washes, plus nail care products and other accessories, like therapy balls and jade rollers.

This is the first time the company is hosting a solely online charity profit share. Hiatus has held Spa For A Cause in-person in years past, but this year’s event “gives everyone the opportunity to contribute to a good cause without physically being in the day spa,” a rep from the company told Houstonia.

As for why Jonathan’s Place: The rep told us that multiple pipes burst in one of the charity’s children’s homes in the aftermath of Winter Storm Uri. “They do very important work in our community by providing emergency residential care for children in crisis,” the rep said. “It’s hard to conceive of a better cause than helping kids in unspeakably bad circumstances.”

From midnight to 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, give your skin a treat and help the kids while you’re at it.

A native Austinite, Catherine Wendlandt spent almost six years in the Midwest for college and graduate school at the University of Missouri (MIZ). While there, she talked about Texas and missed queso so much she had to come back.  In school, she worked as a city government reporter and page designer for the Columbia Missourian, a communications intern at a local jazz company, a food editor and later the managing editor at Vox Magazine, and a research assistant for the Association of Health Care Journalists. She's worked in Missouri, Dallas, and Barcelona, Spain, and interned for Houstonia in 2018, when she fell in love with everything about the city, except maybe the traffic and mosquitos.  When she's not at work, you can find Catherine curled up reading a good book, out exploring local parks, taking lots of sunset pictures, and trying to pet every dog she sees (in spite of the allergies).
