What: MATCH – Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston Grand Opening Weekend
When: Friday, January 15; Saturday, January 16; Sunday, January 17, 2016
Where: MATCH, 3400 Main Street, Houston, TX 77002
Celebrating: The grand opening of the new MATCH – Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston – a project that has been in the works for more than 10 years, and was made possible through a $25 million fundraising campaign.
More than 800 party-goers ranging in age from young professionals to seasoned arts enthusiasts reveled in the fun and excitement of this event that lasted until 1:00 a.m.! The diverse array of performing and visual art in the MATCH venues included:
Comedic performances by BETA Theater’s house improv troupe in The Wortham Foundation, Inc. MATCHBOX 2.
Experimental cinema from the Art In Motion Film Festival, and shows from the PBS series The Territory were presented by the Southwest Alternate Media Project (SWAMP) in MATCHBOX 4.
DiverseWorks presented the The What Shall We Do Next? visual art exhibit in the Nina and Michael Zilkha Gallery.
Music by DJs Noey Lopez and Vanessa Styvër pulsed through the Ray C. Fish Foundation Breezeway. PhotoMoto parked their photo booth bus on Holman Street so that revelers could play dress up and snap photos in a refurbished VW Bus. Print-out photo strips were a take-home party favor bonus. DJ Mark of Distinctive Deejays created a Karaoke Cabaret in the John P. McGovern Foundation MATCHBOX 3 Theater where guests sang their hearts out until the wee hours of the morning. And Fire dancer Juniper Jairala lit up the night in the Charles Butt/H-E-B plaza.
For hungry partiers, MATCH blocked off Holman Street to create a food truck park featuring delicious assortment of food from The Burger Joint, Cousins Maine Lobster, Food Music Life, The Golden Grill, Mobile Mug, Moon Rooster, Smoosh Cookie, Taco Nut, Casian King, Sticky’s Chicken, and the Waffle Bus. If that wasn’t enough, more food and beverages were offered by Lemond Kitchen in the MATCH Café.
