Houston doubled down on its love for the Rodeo this year by celebrating 2020’s outstanding female Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo volunteers with a blowout party on none other than Valentine’s Day.
Part luncheon, part fashion show, and part boot-scootin’-boogie, the 21st-annual sold-out affair saw 1,400 Houstonians don their western best at the downtown Hilton Americas to recognize five accomplished honorees, fittingly dubbed “Sweethearts of the Rodeo” this year.
Ginger Brown, Debi Gan, Gretchen Gilliam, Pamela Logsdon, and Patti Wilburn were chosen for their “rodeo volunteer spirit” and dedication to HSLR through their time, talent, and generosity—each woman has served on multiple rodeo committees for at least 10 years.
In a mix of heels and cowboy boots, the fab five and other past Trailblazer honorees walked the runway to massive applause, followed by a lively presentation of spring trends curated by Tootsies creative director Fady Armanious. Models appeared first in shades of soft blue as a nod to the Rodeo and later donned bold florals, bright sparkles, and glam gowns.
Equal parts rustic and romantic, the Hilton ballroom was transformed to fit the theme—drenched in shades of red and draped in crushed velvet and velour with mixed metals, flowers, and cascading candelabras throughout the space.
Guests also perused a massive marketplace of local wares and rodeo essentials from a variety of vendors who set up shop outside the ballroom. And the festivities didn’t stop after the show: The Black Cat Choir kept the party going in the Lovers Lounge where everyone was invited to kick up their heels.
To commemorate the affair, each guest received a custom bracelet designed by local jeweler and committee member Christina Greene. Jennifer Summerour chaired this year’s event with Tonya Yurgensen-Jacks, Janen Comer, Lezli Schilling Goss, Ann Massey, Sonia Padilla, Stephanie Montalbano, and Tammy Shepperd rounding out the 2020 Trailblazer Committee.
