20-Plus Ways to Donate, Volunteer, and Help out in Houston Right Now

We at Houstonia are firm believers that the best thing you can do for yourself is go out and make your small corner of the universe a little better for someone else, especially in remarkably challenging times such as these. Luckily, our city truly excels at doing just this—all of those hurricanes have at least taught us how to step up to help each other out and grocery shop in bulk.

Maybe your pandemic difficulties have only translated to scrubbing your home with Clorox until your hands are raw or perhaps you’re one of more than 350,000 furloughed and laid-off workers in this city. Whatever your current situation, we hope you’ll read on and draw inspiration from the myriad Houstonians that have made the Bayou City better this year through their contributions—volunteers who fed as many Houston kids as possible or helped out with veterans, and everyday folks who raised money so local students could be part of art programs—and pay it forward in any way you can.

We’ve gathered up ways big (and small) to give back. Need help? We also have rounded up some resources you can tap into. If there’s one thing that the past year has demonstrated, it’s that we truly cannot control what life hands to us, but we can choose how we respond to it. Here’s wishing our city warmer, brighter, and kinder days ahead.
