Have you seen one of the hottest museum exhibitions of the summer, Kusama: At the End of the Universe, at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston?

No? (Really?) Well, your busy work schedule is no longer an excuse. For the closing weekend of the exhibit, MFAH is keeping the doors open to Kusama for 24 hours. From 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 17 to 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 18, visitors can purchase specifically timed tickets throughout the 24 hour cycle online. After regular Museum hours end at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening, Kusama remains open to the public through 10 a.m., when viewing resumes during regular operating hours on Sunday.

At the exhibit, spectators can experience artist Yayoi Kusama’s contemporary art environments that transport museum-goers to an entirely different world. The first room, Love is Calling, is filled with neon, tentacle-like installations that reach out in every direction, accompanied by a recording of Kusama reading a love poem in Japanese. The second room, Aftermath of Obliteration of Infinity, puts viewers on a platform surrounded by water and countless hanging lights, which conjures the feeling of being lost in space. The walls and ceilings of each of these environments are covered with mirrors, giving the small space an infinite feeling and a one-of-a-kind experience for visitors.

Food trucks, beer, wine and a specialty Kusama-themed cocktail will be available between 7 and 11 p.m., while the Museum’s Lavazza coffee bar will be available around the clock. Don’t forget to use #kusamauniverse to share your experience on Instagram and Twitter. Sept 17–18. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet St. 713-639-7300. mfah.org

Editor’s Note: Due to popular demand, this event is now sold out. However, Kusama: At the End of the Universe will still be open during MFAH’s normal business hours this weekend.

After living throughout the Southeast, Jeanne and her husband packed up their boots for Texas in June 2016 and haven’t looked back thanks to Tex-Mex, bluebonnets and bigger hair.
