5 Things You Must Do This Weekend, Feb 14-16

Love Bugs & Love Bites

Feb 14 | The Health Museum

Searching for something, shall we say, different for Valentine’s Day? Look no further. Chefs David Cordúa and Jason Hayes have teamed up to prepare a three-course meal that incorporates crickets into every dish. Yes, you read that right, we said crickets (which surprisingly have a lot protein for their size). Feast on romantic culinary pairings such as corn and cricket arepas, pan-seared chicken with a cricket mole negro, and cricket and cayenne chocolate truffles. Because nothing says romance quite like meals that used to chirp. Before your bae says, “We need to talk,” yes, there will be insect-less options for any entomophobes out there.

Tickets from $59. The Health Museum 1515 Hermann Dr. 713-521-1515  More info and tickets at thehealthmuseum.org.

Whiskey Myers

Feb 15 | Revention Music Center

These country rockers have come a long way since their start in Palestine, Texas, more than a decade ago. If you want to show these East Texas boys some home-state love this Saturday, you better hurry—their show’s nearly sold out.

After leaving her hometown of Baltimore, Emma spent five years covering arts & culture in the mountains of Virginia before joining Houstonia in January 2020. During her tenure in the commonwealth, she walked with ghosts through the state's oldest municipal cemetery, became BFFs with one of the writers behind the Despicable Me franchise, and borderline stalked an Elvis Tribute Artist — but in her defense, she won multiple awards for that story, and he was crowned the world's best ETA. Her work has been picked up by The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and The Associated Press. When Emma's not chasing down a story, taking in a musical, or watching a superhero TV show, she's spending time with her giant, sweet potato fry-stealing cat, Boh (named after Charm City icon Natty Boh), whose raison d'etre is to be a real-life Garfield.
