Lucas Museum Is Shopping for a Home

Mad lucas museum of narrative art view from the plaza iemjii

Chicago non-profit Friends of the Parks was one force George Lucas could not reckon with due to the group’s two year protest of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art on the Windy City’s lakefront. As of Friday, the Star Wars creator formally withdrew plans for the Chicago-based museum due to unresolvable lawsuits with the local preservation group surrounding its proposed location.

The museum has been on hold since Friends of the Parks filed a federal lawsuit halting construction in November 2014. The group argued that the project would tarnish the city’s lakefront, even though the proposed site is currently a parking lot.

The Lucas Museum plans to celebrate the art of visual storytelling by showcasing vast narrative art exhibitions, many drawn from Lucas’ personal collection.

Both San Francisco and Los Angeles are rolling out the red carpet and courting the museum as a new prospective home. (Houston—step up to the plate!)

Jeanne grew up in Cajun country where the bayous look a little different from the Bayou City’s. After graduating from LSU, she garnered lifestyle editorial experience on staff at New Orleans Weddings, Southern Living and Country Living magazines, as well as freelancing for Architectural Digest, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, Brides and Coastal Living magazines. After living throughout the Southeast, Jeanne and her husband packed up their boots for Texas in June 2016 and haven’t looked back thanks to Tex-Mex, bluebonnets and bigger hair. When she’s not covering the world-renowned arts scene of Houston, Jeanne can be found walking her hound dog Pepper in the Heights, braking for antique markets that rarely have air conditioning or rearranging her living room furniture (again).
