Just last month, the original Treebeards at Market Square closed its doors. But with every ending comes a beginning, and right now that means the famed New Orleans-style concept is starting anew in Memorial.
Treebeards has opened its fifth location in the Moody National office building at 9655 Katy Fwy, #3120. It's the first time the concept has gone outside of Downtown (Treebeards still has two Downtown tunnels locations, plus two other spots at 1200 McKinney St and 1117 Texas Ave, respectively), and the Memorial site, called Treebeards Bunker Hill, will mark the first Treebeards that offers lunch and dinner daily—yes, that includes weekends.
"We are thrilled to bring the tradition of Treebeards to our neighborhood," said co-owner Jolie Stinneford in a release. "After more than 40 years in downtown Houston, we have answered our loyal customers' requests to expand and are very thankful we were able to find a such fantastic location for this new version of Treebeards."
For this new 6,000-square-foot space that can seat 140 in the dining room, 40 on an outdoor patio, and 36 at the bar, Treebeards worked with chef Matt Marcus of Eastie Boys food truck, 8th Wonder Brewery, and beverage consultant Linda Salinas to both enliven the dinner menu and introduce a full bar. New food items include a stuffed pork chop and roasted salmon with mustard sauce, and the bar menu includes deviled eggs and crab and shrimp queso. (Of course, red beans and rice, jambalaya, and all the Treebeards classics remain.)
As for drinks, find a blackberry ginger margarita and sangria mojito, plus two draught wines, non-alcoholic cocktails, and nitro cold brew from Katz's Coffee.
Treebeards brought some of the original Market Square art and furniture into the new space, but the restaurant also enlisted Mario Enrique Figueroa, Jr., better known as "Gonzo 247," to create a custom mural to frame the open kitchen. Kendall/Heaton designed the digs, which suggest an open and airy environment.
Lunch is ongoing and runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, while dinner starts Thursday. From that day onward, Treebeards will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
