Hand Rolls Planned for The Heights This Fall

The proposed interior of Hando in the Heights, coming in the fall.

A concept focusing on serving hand rolls to a 24-seat bar will be opening this fall in the Heights. Hando, coming from Jason Andaya’s Family Meal Group, along with Ray Chan (Bar Münich) and Rishi Patel, will be located at 518 W. 11th St. (A website is live for the restaurant.)

Hando promises hand rolls (or temaki), which are often seafood and rice wrapped in a cone of seaweed, both a la carte and in flights of three, four, or five pieces. Fresh-made hand rolls will also be boxed and available for purchase; one called “Not My First Rodeo” includes salmon, yellowtail, and scallop rolls. Sashimi and other bites will also be available.

Original cocktails utilizing Japanese gin, yuzu, and other delights will also be available, along with sake and beer.

“Imagine being in of one of Japan’s large fish markets and finding a bar in the middle of it where you could sit and enjoy some of the freshest seafood in its simplest form,” said Andaya. “That’s what eating at Hando will be like.”

Expect Hando’s interior (1,200 square feet in all) to include light-toned wood and clean lines. JT Arc Studio is designing the space.
