Local Foods to Expand With Austin Location

The popular crunchy chicken sandwich at Local Foods.

Later this year, Austinites will get a lot more familiar with the famous crunchy chicken sandwich.

Local Foods, the popular concept from restaurateur Benjy Levit and culinary director Dylan Murray, will open around late summer at 454 W 2nd St. in ATX. Martin Berson, who partnered with Levit on Benjy’s in 1995, then founded Snap Kitchen, will oversee operations in the capital city.

“Dylan and I are excited to collaborate with Martin on Local Foods’ first expansion into a new market,” said Levit in a release provided Tuesday. “We love Austin and are ecstatic to have a reason to spend even more time working with the amazing people involved in the city’s ever-growing food scene. We truly believe in forming our menu around as many high-quality, local ingredients as we can and look forward to doing so in Austin.”

Local Foods is known for its fast-casual, health-conscious take on gourmet sandwiches, salads, and entrées using local ingredients, while pushing wine, beer, and craft cocktails at a full bar. With five locations in key parts of the city—the Heights, Rice Village, Upper Kirby, Downtown, and Tanglewood—it’s a regular hotspot for weekday lunch and weekend family meals.

The Austin Local Foods will be 4,500 square-feet with two levels and a patio. Michael Hsu Architecture and designer Aaron Rambo are in charge of the buildout.
