Houston Cancer Patients Can Get Free Rides to Treatment Through Lyft

Through the darkness of our current state of affairs comes a glimmer of positive, albeit unrelated, news: Today in good deeds, rideshare company Lyft has announced an expanded partnership with the American Cancer Society to offer local cancer patients free rides to treatment.

Patients in need of transportation in Houston–as well as Atlanta, Cincinnati, Denver, L.A., New Jersey, Philadelphia, and St. Louis, where the program is also expanding, and Las Vegas and Miami, where the program already exists—can use the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program, which contacts Lyft’s concierge tool, a third-party web request platform, to secure a ride to their appointment, gratis.

“Lack of transportation remains one of the biggest roadblocks to receiving high-quality cancer care,” ACS executive director Dan D’Armond said in a statement. “Our expanded partnership with Lyft will help us provide more cancer patients with access to potentially lifesaving treatments.”

“Improving lives is core to everything that we do at Lyft, and we are proud to help provide reliable rides for people who need them most,” Lyft Gulf Coast general manager Kaleb Miller added. “By partnering with the American Cancer Society, we are able to help give patients one less thing to worry about during their journey to recovery.”
