He was best known for designing in-demand River Oaks homes, but famed architect Hiram Salisbury saved this Hunters Creek Village spot for himself.

Back then, though, the estate at 610 Saddlewood Lane was but a fraction of the $4.3 million, 7,600-square-foot dominion that’s listed with John Daugherty Realtors today. The original structure—a smaller house which has since been carefully restored and incorporated into the rest of the property’s expansive design—was used as Salisbury’s hunting lodge.

The former lodge and the rest of the mansion, plus a separate 580 square-foot pool house, sits on nearly an acre of gated grounds. The later expansion transformed the property into a five-bedroom, eight-bathroom dream home replete with antique tiles, artisan plater walls, and steel and glass exterior doors. Interiors are light and airy, and finishes—from marble bathroom floors to funky modern lighting and charming, graphic wallpaper—expertly meld tradition with whimsy.

There are other standout features, too, like a circular wall of built-ins, a luxurious soaking tub, a serene stone terrace and outdoor fireplace, and plenty of indoor nooks offering cozy spaces for desks or window-adjacent chaise lounges. Antique renovation materials came from Chateau Domingue.

The wooded acre has the feel of an enchanted forest—a true urban escape, as Salisbury must’ve originally intended—that’s only enhanced by a vine pergola-covered pathway leading to the separate pool house. There, a full wall of black steel-encased bi-folding doors reveals the southern lawn and pool terrace.

Then there’s the climate-controlled wine vault, green house, fitness center, and—oh yeah—even a basketball court.
