There's familial competition when we talk about the best colleges in the Lone Star State, but it looks like a new study has the official answer.
Niche, the company that has the most comprehensive data on U.S. schools and neighborhoods, shared its 22 Best Colleges list and Houston’s own, Rice University, ranked seventh and was also named the best college in Texas.
The university is ranked number one in best colleges for kinesiology and physical therapy, sports management, and architecture. Many of its other majors already rank in the top ten around the country as well, including landing in third for students studying engineering and fourth for students studying art.
Rice University sits at the heart of the city’s Museum District and attracts students from all over the world, making up its approximate 4,000 undergraduates. In addition, the university is also regarded as a top-tier research institution, with students spread out across 8 different schools.
Rice was given an overall Niche Grade of an A+, which is based on academics, diversity, athletics, value, campus, location, and several more categories. The research also compiled student and alumni reviews, finance, and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education.
The top 10 list colleges from Niche's list include a number of Ivy League schools, as well as other prestigious institutions. Massachusetts Institute was listed at number one, while Harvard University and Yale University rounded out the top three at one and two, respectively. Some of the other top schools were Stanford University, Princeton University, and Duke University.
Colleges across Texas were also ranked. Rice University topped the list at No. 1, while the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, Southern Methodist University, and Trinity University made the list as well.
