Houston’s Lizzo Set To Make Appearance in Celeb-Packed Concert

Lizzo At Rodeo ended up a no-go, but we’ll still have a chance to bask in her glory this weekend. The “Truth Hurts” singer is one of many celebrity guests participating in One World: Together At Home, a multi-hour special being live-streamed and televised for audiences around the world at 7 p.m. CST April 18.

And tickets to this show won’t sell out in minutes—mostly because there aren’t tickets. Curated in collaboration with Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga, the concert brings together some of today’s biggest names to celebrate the healthcare workers fighting on the front lines and to raise awareness for the WHO’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. The concert is not meant to be a fundraiser, Gaga, who has raised $35 million for the WHO’s fund, said. Rather, the special is meant to, “tell the stories of, and celebrate the frontline communities, health-care workers, and their acts of kindness.”

In addition to the Alief native and three-time Grammy winner, who has already been sending vibes of love to fans during the pandemic, musicians set to appear during the special include past RodeoHouston performers Kacey Musgraves, Lady Antebellum, Camila Cabello, Keith Urban, and Becky G. Others in the 100-plus star-studded lineup include Elton John, Oprah Winfrey, Andrea Bocelli, Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, Jimmy Kimmel, Billie Eilish, and members of the cast of Sesame Street. Healthcare workers will also share their experiences fighting COVID-19. And the fun doesn’t stop there; a six-hour pre show will lead into the special.

“Our hope for the special,” Hugh Evans, co-founder and CEO of Global Citizen, said in a statement earlier this week, “is that everyone will come away believing that we, as a shared humanity, can emerge from this moment forever grateful for the work of doctors, nurses, teachers, grocery store workers, and all those who are the backbone of our communities.”
